Is It Too Hot

It's not just about the Grand Canyon

Enjoy a hike early morning or stay out late in a busy city. Photograph the warm sunny desert or ski in the cool crisp snowy mountains. Arizona is one of the few places where you can enjoy a spectrum of activities all within a short distance. Phoenix is within driving distance to Las Vegas, San Diego and Los Angeles among tons of other destination sites along the way. And below is just a taste of places to explore within the state.

While Northern Arizona is home to the Grand Canyon, it also draws crowds for many other must-see stops. The historic Route 66 twists through Flagstaff, a quick drive from Phoenix as well as a popular ski stop. Equally as near is Pinetop which is home to thousands of evergreen trees and scenic vistas. Here you will also find Monument Valley, one of the most photographed landmarks in the United States located inside Navajo Nation.

A common weekend escape brings many locals to Central Arizona where Sedona is located- home of new age spiritualists and challenging treks through the Red Rock. Many people also stop in to the frontier town of Jerome or check out the historic downtown of Prescott. Either way, Central Arizona has long been a popular getaway for outdoor adventurists and families alike.

For those aquatic lovers, the West Coast is home to Lake Havasu and the Colorado River. The water and activities in this area bring relief from the astonishing heat during the summer months. Labeled the "Personal Watercraft Capital of the World" Lake Havasu is one of the top destinations for boating and water sports.

A speedy 2 hour drive south of Phoenix's center gets you to Tucson- the second largest metropolitan city in the state. Southern Arizona has so much to offer from wine tasting in the vineyards to experiencing Latino culture and food or bird watching in nearby Patagonia- there is something for everyone!
